(From the
press release by Revolutionary Music...)
Electronic
music isn't ready for Burton L, and frankly he doesn't give a
fuck. In fact, his irreverent attitude is one of the most refreshing
aspects of his music, which blends everything from chilled-out
downtempo to hyperactive house, and even rock and hip-hop with
zero regard for genre conventions. Revolutionary Music first
spotted Burton rocking a downtempo set on two Powerbooks and a
mixer at a party at Chicago's infamous Illmeasures loft (headquarters
for the DJ crew of the same name). We watched as he turned the
room upside down with a sick hybrid style of music we couldn't
quite put a finger on. When posed the question 'Who made this
track,' Burton replied, 'they are all mine.' It was at that moment
we knew we had to sign him.
(From the
press release by Omega Point Records...)
A musical
double agent working the dancehall circuit as a DJ/Live PA and
the rock clubs as a singer/guitarist, BUrton L. creates music
that combines deep, hypnotic rhythms and synthesizer lines with
smooth guitar licks, intricate vocal harmonies - even some real
horns and strings. Though known around his native Chicago primarily
for spinning house, drum n' bass, and downtempo sets at some of
the city's swankier nightclubs, Burton's rock material reveals
his secret identity a a fast-fingered guitarist, skillful songwriter,
and a gifted singer with a voice equal parts gravelly and golden.
Like Beck, John Spencer, and Moby, Burton L. bundles together
countless branches of the genre tree, proving that electronic
sounds and rock roots can - and should - go together.
